Report: Apple computer sales could slow for holidays
A report by market research company ChangeWave suggests that Apple could be facing hard times for computer sales through the holidays. The company performance for the past quarter has been good, with 23 percent of survey respondents who purchased a computer in the past 90 saying they bought a Mac notebook, and 17 percent a desktop. Feed Aggregation Made Easy by Google Reader API
Niall Kennedy has documented an API for Google Reader, beating Google to a public release of how developers can build their own feed-reading applications atop Google's engine. An update to Niall's original post reveals that the product manager of Google Reader confirmed the accuracy of Niall's work, and asserted that Google built the API first, then contstructed Google Reader as just one example of what could be done. The implication here is that Google might well develop new feed-reading applications--something to look forward to. Best Buy launching cellular modem-equipped GPS units
Best Buy sure looks to be aiming high with its first Insignia-branded GPS units, which will apparently not only pack all the expected run-of-the-mill specs but two-way, Dash-like communication as well. That desirable feature will be included on both the 4.3-inch NS-CNV 20 and 3.5-inch NS-CNV 10 models, each of which make use of that cellular connectivity to provide real-time traffic information and access to Google Local Search, among other things, all of which will be free for the first year (no word on pricing after that). In addition to a larger screen, the $499 NS-CNV20 will also give you some built-in Bluetooth, but if that's more than you need, you can save a $100 and opt for the $399 NS-CNV10. Look for both to go on sale October 19th.

Today was the launch of the iPhone 3G and the 2.0 software. Large groups of people lined outside the Apple Stores quickly before the 8:00 AM sale time. AT&T got involved in the activation process and decided they wanted all customers' purchases to be activated in-store. Instead, the servers weren't ready for the demand. Transactions couldn't be handled, and a 10-15 minute process turned out to be twenty minute to an hour per customer.
